RESOLUTION 2 – NATAL VIOLENCE

W

e, the S.A.T.F., noting :

  1. The unscrupulous efforts by certain agencies to split Black Unity between Indians and our African brothers.
  2. That the violence in Natal is dividing the oppressed people at a time when Unity is the aspiration of the majority of all people.
  3. That the violence is not of a general nature, but that of a band of opportunists.
  4. That the Natal violence is causing grave concern in the Indian community.
  5. That rumours are rife in Natal that Indians are preparing to recruit Indians from India to create greater unemployment amongst Black people in South Africa.

Hereby:

  1. Deplore the past and ongoing violence in Natal.
  2. Sympathise with all people who are victims of the Natal violence.
  3. Deny unfounded rumours of mass Indian immigration.

Hereby resolve:

  1. That the S.A.T.F. as a matter of urgency meet with all leaders concerned with the ongoing violence in Natal with a view to resolving it.
  2. That the S.A.T.F convene mass meetings of the community in all parts of the country, especially Natal, to allay fears and address problems relating to the Natal violence.

Moved by Dr. Val Moodley and seconded by Mr. Rangasamy.
